Model Airplane Parts

Nothing is more important on your airplane, then the parts that run it. Your model airplane parts need to be reliable and durable.

Below I will talk about a lot of different model airplane parts , and provide you with a link to a recommended hobby shop to purchase that specific part (if available).

These parts do not need to be purchased with ready to fly airplanes, because everything you need is already there.

If there are parts that you need to purchase, it will say on the box or on the product listing page.

Electric motors - There are two types of electric motors, brushed and brushless. Brushed motors use brushes to conduct electricity to the commutator, which conducts the current to the armature, which consists of plates wrapped with wire.

Brushless motors have the armature wound on the inside of the motor case, and a shaft mounted magnet rotates in the middle. If you are buying an electric motor, I suggest you go with a brushless motor.

Gas engines- Gas engines comes in either 2 stroke or 4 stroke. A 2 stroke engine makes one revolution for every power cycle. Four stroke engines provide much more torque though and sound really nice when running. They do however require more maintenance and are more complicated then 2 stroke engines are.

Speed Controllers- Electronic speed controllers are more efficient than mechanical ones and allow a much longer run time for a given battery.

Basically, a speeds controller controls your motors speed by opening and closing switches thousands of times per second. Electronic speed controllers work very well for electric powered rc airplanes.

Servos - A servo is a electromechanical device that moves the control surfaces. Basically, it’s what makes your flaps move up and down.

Receiver - This is the part of the radio system that receives the radio signal sent by the transmitter.

Wings - Without these, you cant fly!

Fuselage - The body of your aircraft.

Radio Transmitter (Controller) - The part of the radio system that send the radio signal to the receiver in the airplane.

Landing Gear - An airplanes wheels, axles and supporting structure. A conventional landing gear is a tail dragger configuration.
